Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English with the ability to accurately interpret spoken language and sign language.
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school or educational environment preferred.
- Certification such as EIPA, RID, or state licensure is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and reliability.
- Flexibility to adapt to various classroom settings and age groups.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with students, staff, and families.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret instructional and conversational content between deaf/hard of hearing students and staff or peers in classroom and school-related activities.
- Work closely with educators to understand lesson content and provide appropriate interpreting.
- Facilitate communication during parent-teacher conferences, assemblies, and extracurricular activities as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpretation.
- Offer feedback and collaborate with school teams and special education staff to support student needs and learning outcomes.
