Make a difference in a child's educational journey by providing invaluable communication support as an onsite interpreter in an elementary setting. This full-time, 1:1 role partners directly with a kindergartner who is completely deaf and just beginning to learn sign language. Your expertise will be essential in supporting both their communication and academic needs through visual supports as they discover the world of ASL.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current certification and licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Experience in educational or elementary school settings strongly preferred
  • Ability to adapt interpretations for young children and beginners in sign language
  • Commitment to providing accessible, engaging, and visual learning experiences
  • Sensitivity, patience, and enthusiasm for supporting children with unique needs
  • Comfortable working onsite during standard school hours (approximately 7:30am – 2:30pm)
  • Willingness to collaborate with school staff, teachers, and family to ensure student’s success

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret all classroom communication and interactions between the student, peers, and staff
  • Deliver consistent, age-appropriate visual supports to enhance comprehension
  • Assist in adapting learning materials and classroom activities for a student new to ASL
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive environment for the student’s social and academic development
  • Maintain open communication with classroom teachers, special education teams, and caregivers
  • Participate in relevant meetings or professional development as required
