Step into a meaningful role as an onsite interpreter supporting a kindergartner who is beginning their journey with sign language. This full-time, contract position is perfect for someone passionate about making a difference, as you’ll provide dedicated 1:1 interpreting for a young student who is completely deaf and just starting to learn sign language. - Current certification and license as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience working in elementary school settings, ideally with 1:1 student support
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting children who are new to sign language
- Comfort and creativity in providing visual supports for learning
- Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to adapt to the needs of young learners
- Commitment to professionalism and collaboration with teachers and staff
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 sign language interpreting to a kindergartner throughout the school day (approximately 7:30–2:30)
- Support the student’s access to classroom instruction, peer interaction, and all school activities
- Use visual tools and other resources to enhance understanding and communication
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family members to support the student’s progress
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions
If you’re a dedicated sign language interpreter, eager to impact a child’s life and open to travel opportunities, this could be the perfect next step. For those who thrive in this role, renewal for the following school year is a strong possibility.
