Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Previous experience interpreting in a school or educational setting preferred.
  • State or national certification in sign language interpretation is strongly valued.
  • Ability to adapt interpretation style to accommodate diverse student needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, student interactions, and school activities for deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to support student IEPs and individualized needs.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers during both academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy in all interpreted sessions.
  • Provide feedback or clarification to staff when necessary to improve accessibility and understanding.
