Sign Language Interpreter in Frederick, MD

Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting an enthusiastic high school student as a contracted Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming school year near Frederick, MD. This full-time role runs from August 24, 2026, to June 11, 2027, with the possibility of extended service in ESY (Extended School Year). Your fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) will help ensure access to academic content, classroom discussion, and school activities for a student transitioning from the Maryland School for the Deaf. The student is actively involved in both football and track, and while primary coverage for sports is arranged, any additional flexibility would be a welcome advantage.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language; skilled in educational interpreting
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially within secondary school settings
• Background as a Teacher of American Sign Language is a plus
• Certification or licensure for educational interpreting, if required by state
• Ability to adapt communication style to a teenager’s academic and social environment

Role Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretive services throughout the school day, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
• Facilitate effective communication between student, peers, and educators in all classroom settings
• Support equitable access during school assemblies, meetings, and activities
• Coordinate with teachers and staff to address daily needs and specific assignments
• Optionally offer interpretive support at school sports events as needed
