Bring your expertise in sign language interpreting to a highly rewarding opportunity supporting a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student in a dynamic educational environment near Gary, IN! As an on-site interpreter, you will play a crucial role in helping a young learner access communication and education, making a lasting positive impact every day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Deliver sign language interpreting services to a DHH student during the school day
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, staff, and the student to facilitate classroom communication
  • Interpret classroom instruction, peer interactions, and small group activities
  • Support the student in both academic and social settings, ensuring full participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards in all situations
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM; approximately 30 hours per week on-site

Your Background:

  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred
  • Comfortable working with young children, ideally in early childhood or Head Start environments
  • Hold current relevant certification or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs throughout the school day
