Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL); interpreter certification preferred
  • Prior experience interpreting in a K-12 educational setting or with school-age children
  • Strong understanding of educational terminology and processes
  • Aptitude for adapting sign language to varied learning and communication styles
  • Professionalism, reliability, and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and school staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students during classroom lessons, activities, assemblies, and meetings
  • Support educators and staff in creating accessible instructional materials and communication strategies
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and interactions
  • Promote student inclusion by facilitating meaningful participation in school programs
  • Adapt communication support as needed for individual student needs, and provide feedback to the educational team
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute insight to best support student progress
