What we’re looking for:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreting in educational environments
- Valid national or state interpreter certification (such as RID, EIPA, or equivalent)
- Previous experience providing sign language interpretation in schools is highly preferred
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and educational teams to meet individual student needs
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity
- Commitment to student confidentiality and FERPA guidelines
Key responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and activities for students requiring ASL support
- Ensure accurate and impartial communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt interpretation styles for various academic subjects and student personalities
- Support participation during assemblies, extracurricular activities, parent-teacher conferences, and other school events
- Assist educational staff in understanding best practices for working with deaf or hard of hearing students
- Maintain documentation in alignment with school and program requirements
