Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong receptive and expressive skills.
  • Ability to interpret in educational settings, adapting to a range of subjects and age groups.
  • National/State Interpreter Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Flexibility to work with students of varying communication modalities and needs.
  • Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and activities between students and school staff.
  • Maintain accurate timing and convey messages faithfully, preserving intent, tone, and context.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special educators, and administrative staff for optimal communication access.
  • Provide interpreting support in individual, small group, and large group settings.
  • Support preparation of materials and resources as needed to enhance understanding.
  • Remain current with interpreting best practices and education-related requirements.
