This position supports a high school student on a 1:1 basis, ensuring access to communication and fostering an inclusive learning experience. The location is conveniently commutable from Hickory, East Asheville, and Lincolnton.

Key Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language
• Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
• 3.5 EIPA or RID certification strongly preferred
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, students, and families
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a high school student in classroom and school settings
• Facilitate understanding between the student, teachers, staff, and peers
• Adapt interpreting approach according to students’ needs and varying educational environments
• Maintain accurate and ethical standards in all interpreting assignments
• Support student’s access to curriculum, classroom discussions, and extracurricular activities
• Partner with faculty and administration to promote a positive educational experience
