Sign Language Interpreter in Gretna, LA

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity near Gretna, LA, supporting high school students as a Sign Language Interpreter. You’ll play a vital role in providing interpretive services within school settings, ensuring equal access to education and communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This full-time position starts as soon as possible and continues through late May 2027, following the regular school calendar.

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
• Must hold an EIPA score of 4.0 (both performance and written), with documentation listed on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry - Dept. of Health)
• RID and NIC certifications are also accepted; the written EIPA remains required
• Ability to pass fingerprinting and drug screening in line with district and agency requirements
• Previous experience with high school-aged students preferred
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality interpreting services to high school students within one or more assigned schools (specific assignments and caseload will be determined)
• Collaborate effectively with educators, students, and support teams to promote student participation and academic success
• Maintain accurate records of interpreting assignments and student progress
• Uphold professional and ethical standards in line with district and regulatory guidelines
• Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant school functions as needed
