Step into a dynamic school-based environment and make a meaningful impact by supporting students who are hearing impaired. You will collaborate closely with both special education and regular classroom teachers to deliver inclusive, high-quality learning experiences in accordance with each student’s IEP. As part of the Student Support Unit, your expertise will play a pivotal role in maximizing learning potential, fostering communication, and ensuring equitable access for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction for students with hearing impairments as directed by IEPs
  • Facilitate services and identify academic and social needs of hearing impaired students within mainstream educational settings
  • Collaborate regularly with classroom educators to adapt teaching materials, assessments, and activities
  • Request and maintain appropriate materials and auditory equipment, ensuring optimal access for every student
  • Offer in-service training and resources to staff to nurture a supportive, inclusive environment
  • Maintain detailed records: IEP documentation, progress notes, reports for parents, and other necessary school records
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and assist with hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive listening devices, and related technology
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teaching certification in Hearing Impaired
  • At least 3 years’ experience teaching hearing impaired students in inclusive settings
  • Proficiency in sign language and basic troubleshooting of hearing support equipment
  • Strong communication, analytical, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a school environment
  • Competency in technology for data tracking, reporting, and program documentation
  • Successful completion of district-required fingerprinting and drug screening
