Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienced in interpreting within school environments
- Demonstrated ability to provide interpretation between students, staff, and other stakeholders
- Comfortable working in diverse educational settings and adapting to varying student needs
- Professional certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (or eligibility to obtain)
- Strong interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and a collaborative approach
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Foster understanding and inclusion by ensuring clear communication between Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff
- Support the educational and social development of students in both group and one-on-one settings
- Maintain accurate records of services provided and collaborate with educational teams to address individual student requirements
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in all communications
