Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Gridley, California

Make a difference every day by supporting hard of hearing and deaf students as they access educational opportunities in an inclusive environment. This contract position offers the chance to use your expertise in sign language interpretation to bridge communication between students, teachers, and staff in a vibrant educational community. Positions are available for candidates interested in middle or high school settings, and your schedule will be a consistent six hours per day, providing approximately 30 hours each week.

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

• Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or an EIPA score of 4.0 or higher, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment strongly preferred
• Candidates with EIPA scores under 4.0 are welcome (role designated as ASL Para)
• Proven proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience in educational interpreting
• Ability to provide both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
• Experience supporting students in academic and practical settings desired
• Adaptability to work effectively in dynamic classroom and community environments
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics at all times

Role Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear, effective communication between deaf/hard of hearing students, hearing peers, and educational staff
• Interpret classroom instruction and school activities using sign language
• Assist students in academic areas such as reading, writing, and math, and support development of vocational/living skills
• Supervise and monitor students during classroom, outdoor, and community-based activities
• Collaborate closely with teachers and school personnel to promote student inclusion and success
