Step into a vibrant educational environment as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter, making a significant difference in the life of a high school student who is fluent in SLI and transitioning from the Maryland School for the Deaf. This full-time, contract opportunity runs from August 24, 2026, through June 11, 2027, with the potential to extend into the Extended School Year (ESY). Work within school hours—Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—and help create an inclusive, positive learning atmosphere.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and Sign Language Interpretation, especially in a school setting
  • Previous experience working with high school students or in educational settings highly valued
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter, or relevant credentialing, preferred
  • Comfortable interpreting in both classroom and extracurricular contexts
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different learning environments and student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate communication between a high school student and staff, ensuring accessibility during all scheduled classes and educational activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to provide accurate and clear interpretation
  • Support the student’s integration into academic and social aspects of school life
  • Remain flexible to assist with special events, and, as a bonus, extracurricular activities such as sports if needed
