Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally in a school environment
- Familiarity with educational terminology and adapting communication styles for diverse student needs
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with educators, students, and families
- State and/or national certification in sign language interpretation (RID/NIC or equivalent), or eligibility to obtain
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language to ASL, and vice versa, in classroom and school-related activities
- Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and support staff
- Accurately convey lesson content, classroom discussions, and any school communications
- Support student participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
- Uphold confidentiality standards and maintain accurate records as required
