Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter, specializing in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • EIPA score of 4.0 required (candidates with slightly lower scores may be considered if they have strong relevant experience)
  • Experience working with high-school students preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in an educational environment

Position Highlights:

  • Provide direct interpretation services to facilitate communication between a high-school student who is Deaf or hard of hearing and teachers, peers, and other school staff
  • Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, activities, and school events from spoken English to ASL and vice versa
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure the student’s academic and social success
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of interpreting assignments as needed
  • Adhere to the daily schedule: 8:15am – 3:05pm, during regular school hours
