Passionate about supporting students in a dynamic school environment? A rewarding part-time contract opportunity is available for an experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to serve as a Language Facilitator in a behavioral high school classroom. This role focuses on one-on-one communication support for a 9th-grade student adapting to the classroom after attending a Residential Day School Program. The student, equipped with cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, requires ASL interpretation during instructional times only.

This is a job share with coverage needed exclusively on Fridays (6.5 hours per week), with occasional substitution needs if the regular language facilitator is absent during the week.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language and formal training as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Experience in educational settings, ideally supporting students with hearing loss
  • Familiarity with assistive listening devices (ALDs), cochlear implants, and behavioral classroom environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and adaptability
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proof of licensure and professional references required

What You’ll Do:

  • Interpret classroom instruction and discussions for the student, ensuring clear communication
  • Facilitate understanding between student and staff during instructional time
  • Collaborate with teachers and the support team to provide seamless communication access
  • Respect student confidentiality and contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment
  • Substitute as needed for the primary facilitator (Monday–Thursday coverage if required)
