Job Posting: Educational Sign Language Interpreter
Position Overview:
Soliant is seeking a qualified and student-focused Sign Language Interpreter to support deaf and hard of hearing students in an educational setting. The interpreter will facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families to ensure equal access to instruction and school-related activities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpreting skills, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting student success in inclusive learning environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during instructional and non-instructional school activities
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assemblies, meetings, extracurricular activities, and school events using appropriate communication methods
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student learning and access
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records
- Assist in fostering effective communication between students and school personnel
- Support implementation of student accommodations and IEP services
- Maintain professional standards and comply with district, state, and federal regulations
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as required
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Valid Texas educational interpreter certification or licensure as required by state regulations
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting
- Knowledge of deaf culture and communication accessibility practices
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience interpreting in a K–12 educational setting
- RID certification, EIPA, or BEI certification preferred
- Experience supporting students with diverse communication needs
- Familiarity with special education processes and educational terminology
