Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI), particularly in school or educational settings
- Ability to provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and ASL for a single student
- Familiarity with IEPs and strategies to support students with hearing impairments in an academic environment
- Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet varied communication needs throughout the school day
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical interpreting standards
- National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) preferred
Responsibilities:
- Interpret all classroom instruction, lectures, discussions, and school activities for assigned student
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
- Support the student’s participation in both academic and extracurricular settings
- Prepare for classes by reviewing materials or collaborating with teachers as needed
- Maintain detailed records of interpreting services in accordance with school policies
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights to ensure appropriate support
This contract position is set for 37.5 hours each week throughout the 2026-27 school year, providing consistency for both you and the student you'll be working with.
