Certified High School Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Indianapolis, Indiana

Empower students who are Deaf or hard of hearing to fully participate in their high school experience by providing expert American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and facilitation. This contract opportunity is located near Indianapolis, IN and involves close collaboration with educators and staff to deliver consistent access to classroom content. You will play a vital role in ensuring that the student receives seamless instruction and is able to engage confidently with both academic and extracurricular activities.

What you’ll bring:

• Registration under the Sign Language Interpreter and Transliteration Registration Act is required
• Certification and licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) in Indiana
• Advanced proficiency and fluency in American Sign Language
• Experience supporting Deaf or hard of hearing high school-aged students preferred
• Strong understanding of the unique educational, social, and emotional needs within a high school environment
• Capacity to interpret spoken instructions and materials accurately while fostering clear communication
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with teachers, school teams, and support staff

Key responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality ASL interpretation during core content lessons, daily classroom activities, and general coursework
• Support effective communication between the student, peers, and instructional staff
• Adjust interpretive techniques to match the instructional style, setting, and specific needs of the student
• Encourage student independence and participation in all aspects of the educational experience
• Assist with the clarification and understanding of classroom material as needed
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
