Support effective communication and learning for students through skilled sign language interpretation in a dynamic school environment located in Interlochen, MI. This travel position offers the opportunity to provide vital services across various educational settings, enhancing accessibility and inclusion for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate accurate and clear communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.
  • Interpret spoken and signed communication during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
  • Collaborate with educators, counselors, and support staff to promote a supportive learning environment.
  • Adhere to professional standards and confidentiality guidelines while working in multiple school settings.
  • Adapt to varying educational and social environments to meet student needs effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills.
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly and adapt to different school environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Deaf culture and student-centered communication strategies.

Location: Interlochen, Michigan – with travel to surrounding schools as required.
