Embark on a fulfilling contract opportunity as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter serving students in an educational setting near Ipswich, MA. This full-time role begins as soon as possible and extends through a 5-week Extended School Year (ESY) program, with the possibility to continue into the next academic year. You’ll play a vital role in supporting a student who actively collaborates with a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), utilizing an FM system and cochlear implants.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), with proven interpreting experience in school settings
  • Certificate or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (state-recognized, where applicable)
  • Experience working with students who use cochlear implants and FM systems is highly desirable
  • Ability to interpret lesson content, classroom discussions, and student interactions with clarity and accuracy
  • Strong collaboration skills; able to coordinate effectively with Teachers of the Deaf and special education staff
  • Commitment to student confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a designated student throughout the school day
  • Adjust interpreting strategies to accommodate cochlear implant usage and FM system technology
  • Work collaboratively with TODs, general educators, and service providers
  • Support student participation in both academic and extracurricular school activities
  • Assist in developing communication strategies that maximize student engagement
  • Maintain clear, ongoing communication regarding student progress and needs
