Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school setting
- Background in working 1:1 with students, especially at the high school level
- Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom environments
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
- Strong commitment to confidentiality, empathy, and professionalism
- National or state interpreter certification preferred
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a 1:1 interpreter for a 10th-grade student in all classes, ensuring clear and accurate communication
- Facilitate interactions between the student and peers, teachers, and other school personnel
- Adapt interpreting style to fit varying teaching approaches and classroom dynamics
- Collaborate with educational staff to support academic and social inclusion
- Provide language and communication support during extracurricular activities as needed
- Maintain detailed and appropriate records of interpreting services provided
