Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong grasp of educational interpreting practices
- Prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably working 1:1 with pediatric or school-aged students
- Knowledge of IEP processes and how to adapt communication for various learning environments
- Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive atmosphere for students with hearing differences
- Professional certification or credentialing in sign language interpreting (such as RID or state certification) is highly desirable
Responsibilities:
- Provide continuous, clear, and accurate sign language interpretation between the 10th grade student and all school staff, peers, and educators throughout the school day
- Adapt interpreting techniques to meet the individual needs and learning style of the assigned student
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and the student’s educational team to maximize access and participation
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all situations
- Support the student’s engagement in both classroom instruction and extracurricular activities as required
