Elevate your career as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students from Early Childhood through 3rd grade for the full academic year. This contract opportunity offers a rewarding role in a dynamic school environment near Joliet, Illinois, engaging with a range of students and service providers across both mainstream and Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) settings.

This full-year assignment spans from July 29 through May 25, following a consistent daily schedule from 8:05 AM to 3:35 PM. Your expertise will be essential in fostering communication access, inclusion, and learning for students as they navigate their school day within Oakwood and River Valley School environments.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, particularly in school or educational settings
  • Familiarity with both mainstream and DHH classroom environments
  • Ability to adapt communication methods to suit individual student needs
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with teachers, therapists, and other service providers
  • Flexibility to support multiple students and grade levels throughout the day

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction and activities for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Facilitate clear communication between students, educators, and service providers
  • Support inclusive learning by adapting to classroom transitions and diverse educational settings
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
  • Participate in meetings and work collaboratively to support student IEP goals
