Make an impact by supporting student success as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting near Joliet, IL. This contract opportunity is perfect for a passionate interpreter devoted to empowering learners through clear and meaningful communication. You will work full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:25 am to 3:25 pm, providing dedicated 1:1 interpreting services.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) or evidence of relevant credentials.
  • Demonstrated experience in a school environment or with children/adolescents preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism within an educational context.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of students and educators throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate interpretations between spoken English and ASL to facilitate effective communication for a designated student.
  • Support classroom participation and engagement by providing individualized interpreting services during lessons, activities, and school events.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other service providers to address the student’s academic and social needs.
  • Adjust interpreting style to match classroom instruction and ensure accessibility for the student.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment while adhering to district guidelines and professional standards.
