Job Title: Educational Sign Language Interpreter
School Year: 2026–2027
Position Summary:
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter provides communication access for deaf or hard-of-hearing students by interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa in classroom and school settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities using appropriate sign systems (e.g., ASL).
- Support communication between students, teachers, peers, and staff.
- Prepare for lessons by reviewing instructional materials and vocabulary.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure access to curriculum.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional interpreting standards.
- Assist in IEP-related communication as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Educational Interpreting or a related field required.
- Valid EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) certification meeting Illinois state requirements with a score of 3.5+.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Pay Range:
35-42/hr
