Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Kansas City, KS

Step into a critical role supporting students’ communication and learning as an Educational Sign Language Interpreter near Kansas City, KS. In a dynamic, student-focused environment, your skills will enable access and inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as those in programs designed for limited or nonverbal communicators.

This on-site or hybrid contract role requires your presence at least four days weekly, allowing you to build connections with students, educators, and program staff. As our program grows to serve more learners, your expertise will be invaluable as you facilitate clear, effective communication throughout school settings.

What we’re seeking:

• Proficient Sign Language Interpreter with SLI-level proficiency
• Experience in educational settings preferred, but all qualified interpreters (0+ years' experience) are encouraged to apply
• Familiarity with students who have hearing loss, limited, or nonverbal communication is beneficial
• Adaptable, collaborative attitude and commitment to supporting diverse student needs
• Capacity to assist with evaluations where expert interpretation is required
• Flexibility to work on-site or hybrid (minimum 4 days at school)

Your key responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff during classes and school events
• Support students in the SAILS and STEPs programs, fostering an inclusive learning environment
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for evaluations and planning
• Maintain confidentiality while supporting open communication
• Adapt interpretation styles to fit unique student needs, age, and communication preferences
