Take on a valuable part-time opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a high school student in a behavioral classroom setting. This contract role centers around Fridays (6.5 hours per week), providing essential ASL interpretation during instructional hours for a 9th-grade student with unique communication needs, including the use of cochlear implants, hearing aids, and ALD devices. This is a job-share arrangement with a second facilitator covering Monday through Thursday, allowing you to focus on a single, impactful day each week and additional sub opportunities as needed.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational or behavioral settings
- Ability to adapt interpretation strategies for students with cochlear implants and assistive listening devices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with educators and students
- Certification or proof of licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Previous experience supporting students in a school or special education environment is highly desirable
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate ASL interpretation for a 9th-grade student during instructional time (not including lunch, arrival, or dismissal)
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff and other language facilitators to meet the student's needs
- Adapt communication based on the student’s assistive devices and individual preferences
- Step in as a substitute language facilitator on other days if needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential records as required
