As a full-time Sign Language Interpreter, you will work Monday through Friday (37.5 hours/week) following the school calendar, reporting to the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing and Autism within the Student Support Unit.
Your role involves providing essential IEP-directed educational services to students with hearing impairments. You’ll facilitate their integration into mainstream classrooms, consult with educators to maximize learning opportunities, and ensure students’ needs are met through tailored support and appropriate materials or auditory equipment. The position also includes providing in-service training to regular school personnel, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired required
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with hearing impaired students in a regular education setting
- Proficiency in sign language and strong communication skills in various professional environments
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, utilizing data for thoughtful decision-making
- Collaborative approach with experience in diverse and inclusive teams
- Ability to manage competing priorities with professionalism and sound judgment
- Familiarity with trouble-shooting hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive listening devices
- Solid computer skills for maintaining IEPs, student progress notes, and school records
- Successful completion of fingerprinting and drug screening as part of credentialing
