Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Kent, OH

Make a meaningful difference in a student’s educational journey by providing vital sign language interpretation services in a PreK environment for the 26/27 school year. A local district is seeking a skilled, dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support a medically fragile 4-year-old PreK student who is ventilator- and trach-dependent. This is a contract opportunity, offering a rewarding experience within a collaborative school setting near Kent, OH.

Qualifications and Desired Skills:

• Valid Sign Language Interpreter certification required
• Previous experience in educational or pediatric settings strongly preferred
• Able to support students with complex medical needs and interface positively with their care team
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of interpreting best practices
• Compassion, flexibility, and professionalism working with young children

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct interpretation between staff, student, and peers, ensuring clear communication and access to learning
• Collaborate with teachers, aides, and medical personnel to maintain the student’s safety and participation throughout the school day
• Support inclusive classroom environments, helping the student engage in instruction, play, and daily routines
• Maintain confidentiality and follow protocols for both educational and medical privacy
• Attend relevant meetings or training sessions as needed

Position Details:

• 4 days per week, 4 hours per day
• Support a single PreK student
• Contract begins the second week in August
