Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or relevant state certification)
  • Previous experience interpreting in a school or similar professional setting strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of educational terminology and classroom dynamics
  • Ability to facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals and others in both academic and informal settings
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, conversations, and school events between students, educators, and staff, ensuring accurate and effective communication
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the language needs of individual students and the educational context
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate student learning and participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and school community
  • Participate in team meetings and provide feedback regarding student progress as appropriate
