Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or relevant state certification)
- Previous experience interpreting in a school or similar professional setting strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of educational terminology and classroom dynamics
- Ability to facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals and others in both academic and informal settings
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, conversations, and school events between students, educators, and staff, ensuring accurate and effective communication
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the language needs of individual students and the educational context
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate student learning and participation
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
- Support students in accessing the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and school community
- Participate in team meetings and provide feedback regarding student progress as appropriate
