Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in schools or with children/adolescents.
  • Ability to interpret in a variety of educational contexts (classrooms, small groups, activities).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Relevant certification (such as EIPA, RID, or state credential) preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collaborative approach working with educators and support staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate sign language interpretation between students, teachers, and others as needed.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication in classroom settings, assemblies, and during extracurricular activities.
  • Support educators by clarifying lesson content and instructions for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Work as part of a team to foster accessible learning environments.
  • Maintain documentation as required and comply with district procedures.
