Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong receptive/expressive skills
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 school environments preferred
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and support staff
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and comfort with IEP meetings
  • Current state/interpreter certification or willingness to obtain as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism, and cultural competency

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken English to ASL and vice versa in classrooms, meetings, and school events
  • Support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in both academic and social settings
  • Assist teachers and staff in understanding best communication practices
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to established ethical standards of the interpreting profession
  • Work flexibly across grade levels and classroom types as needed
  • Contribute to the creation of an inclusive and supportive learning environment
