Take on a rewarding assignment supporting a high school student who is deaf in a vibrant educational environment. You’ll play a vital role as a Sign Language Interpreter, working directly with the student throughout the full academic year. This is an in-person, full-time contract opportunity where your expertise will make a meaningful impact.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and thorough understanding of interpreting practices in educational settings
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools, preferably at the high school level
- Ability to accurately interpret spoken English into ASL and vice versa
- Strong communication skills and dedication to fostering an inclusive learning environment
- Collaborative, flexible, and professional approach with both students and staff
Responsibilities:
- Ensure clear, effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers in all classroom and school-related activities
- Interpret lectures, instructions, discussions, and extracurricular events
- Support the student’s social and academic engagement throughout the school day
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to help tailor strategies that promote the student’s success
- Maintain ethical standards of confidentiality and impartiality
The student you’ll be working with transferred last year and has had a series of substitute interpreters. As the preferred in-person interpreter, you’ll provide much-needed stability, helping the student thrive academically and socially. This setting places value on face-to-face interaction rather than virtual services, ensuring the student’s preferences and needs are prioritized.
Step into a role where your skills are valued and your daily work leaves a lasting positive impact. If you are passionate about supporting students and want to be a consistent, empowering presence, apply today to make a difference this school year!
