Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational or school-based setting
  • Valid and up-to-date certification for educational interpreting or state licensure, if applicable
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with students, teachers, and staff
  • Adaptable and patient, with a commitment to promoting inclusive education

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring access to curriculum and school activities
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers in classroom and extracurricular settings
  • Accurately interpret spoken language into sign, and vice versa, across a range of subject matters and age groups
  • Collaborate with educational teams and follow individualized education plans (IEPs) when appropriate
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with school policies and interpreter ethical standards
