Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Lakewood, WA

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) for educational interpretation
• Certification or significant experience as a Sign Language Interpreter
• Experience as a Braillist, with the ability to transcribe educational materials into braille
• Familiarity with technology and software for braille production is a plus
• Strong communication skills and commitment to fostering student independence
• Ability to work collaboratively with instructional teams
• Flexibility, reliability, and enthusiasm for empowering students with visual and/or hearing impairments

Core Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities into sign language to facilitate communication
• Provide braille transcription of instructional materials, handouts, and assessments for students with visual impairments
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt and modify instructional content and materials
• Support student engagement by ensuring accessible communication in various educational settings
• Maintain accurate records related to service delivery and student progress
• Participate in meetings and training as related to student accommodations and accessibility

This contract opportunity offers an average pay rate between $35 and $45 per hour, reflecting your experience and expertise in both sign language interpretation and braille transcription.
