Step into a meaningful contract opportunity providing vital communication support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students at an elementary school. This full-time, on-site position will have you partnering closely with students—both one-on-one and in small group settings—to help foster understanding and inclusion throughout the school day. You’ll play a crucial role in enhancing access to education and socialization for students who use American Sign Language.
What you'll need to thrive in this role:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Achievement of at least a 3.0 EIPA score or higher
- Prior experience working in educational settings or with children
- Ability to adapt to group and individual interpreting needs
- Familiarity and compliance with privacy standards when working with minors
- Willingness to complete time-sensitive credentialing, including fingerprinting and district-specific badge processes
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing real-time sign language interpretation for DHH students in classrooms and across school activities
- Adjusting interpreting style to accommodate individual and group interaction
- Collaborating with educators and school staff to support learning plans and encourage student participation
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Navigating school protocols and deadlines for onboarding (fingerprinting, JLA badge application, etc.)
This contract runs from August through May. You’ll be based at a single elementary school site, creating continuity and strong working relationships with students and staff.
