Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting student success as a Sign Language Interpreter close to Lenexa, KS. This full-time role follows the school calendar, running from now through May 21, 2027, with potential to extend into the Extended School Year (ESY). Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., giving you evenings and weekends free. The position centers on providing interpretation services for a 4th-grade student who is just beginning their journey as an ASL learner, making your expertise and encouragement especially meaningful.

Key Qualifications:

  • Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing Interpreting License required
  • Previous experience working within school settings or with children preferred
  • Skilled in providing clear, accurate interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, supportive atmosphere for new ASL learners

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, activities, and events
  • Partner with teachers and school staff to ensure seamless access to curriculum and communication
  • Support individualized learning needs and encourage the student’s language development
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with educational standards
  • Advocate for an inclusive environment that enriches learning for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
