The upcoming school year brings an exciting opportunity for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a vibrant educational setting near Leonardtown, MD. This contract role runs from August 10th, 2026, through June 17th, 2027, offering a rewarding chance to make a real difference as a 1:1 interpreter for a student within the district. Working full time, you’ll be a critical communication partner, enabling access and inclusion through expert interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid MD Sign Language Interpreter License or eligibility
- Strong background providing ASL interpretation within educational settings
- Experience supporting K-12 students preferred, particularly in 1:1 roles
- EIPA score meeting district preference (please share your score with your application)
- Professionalism, reliability, and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to classroom routines and various teacher or student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver consistent, in-person ASL interpreting services for a designated student
- Facilitate clear, accurate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and staff
- Collaborate with educational teams to ensure the student’s academic and social engagement
- Adhere to ethical standards of confidentiality and conduct for interpreters in school environments
- Support the student’s participation in both classroom lessons and extracurricular activities as assigned
- Remain responsive to feedback and adjust interpreting strategies as needed
