Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting student learning and inclusion as a school-based Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming academic year! This full-time contract position is situated near Lexington Park, MD, and will run from August 10th, 2026, through June 17th, 2027. You’ll work closely in a 1:1 capacity with a student, making a crucial difference in their educational experience and access.
Your primary focus will be facilitating clear communication between students, educators, and peers, ensuring that classroom instruction and social interactions are accessible and engaging. This is an enriching role for a skilled interpreter who is passionate about supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing learners.
Ideal candidates possess:
- A current Maryland SLI License, meeting state qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and strong interpreting skills
- Previous experience in educational settings (preferred)
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical interpreting standards
- Effective collaboration and communication abilities
- Flexibility and adaptability when supporting students’ individual needs
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing one-on-one sign language interpretation for a designated student throughout the school day
- Facilitating communication during instructional sessions, assemblies, and school activities
- Collaborating with teachers and staff to support student participation and success
- Adhering to school, district, and ethical guidelines in all interpreting practices
- Maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive environment for student learning
