This position involves providing effective interpretation services for students, staff, and families, ensuring full access to educational content and social interaction within the school community.

Location: Lincoln, Illinois
Work Setting: School environment with some travel requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and educators, peers, and parents using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Interpret classroom instruction, meetings, extracurricular activities, and other school-related events.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and administrators to promote an inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Adapt interpreting methods to meet students’ diverse communication needs and preferences.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting experience in educational settings.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture and issues affecting deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to travel between school sites as required.
  • Certification or credentials in sign language interpretation preferred but not required.
