A skilled Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide professional interpretation services within an educational setting in Lowell, MA. This role supports effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and the school community, ensuring accessibility and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and staff through sign language interpretation.
  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
  • Collaborate with teachers and education staff to accommodate students' communication needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions.
  • Occasionally travel to nearby school locations to provide interpretation services as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpretation experience in educational environments.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and the challenges faced by deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
  • Ability to interpret educational content accurately and facilitate instructional support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability for travel within the assigned area.

Location:

  • Lowell, Massachusetts, with some travel to surrounding school sites as needed.
