Key Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid credential or license as a Sign Language Interpreter in the state of North Carolina
  • Proven ability to interpret and facilitate communication in a school environment
  • Deep understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with relevant educational terminology
  • Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and sensitivity to the unique needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Availability to work onsite for the full contract duration

Role Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into sign language, and vice versa, for a student with a 1:1 caseload
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to promote accessible learning
  • Support both classroom instruction and school activities, ensuring students participate fully
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality while fostering an inclusive educational environment
  • Adapt communication approaches to individual student needs
  • Keep clear, accurate records of services provided
