Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clear, accurate interpretation services in classroom and school-based environments, facilitating communication between students, educators, and staff.
  • Support educational teams with real-time interpreting during lessons, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain adherence to ethical standards and confidentiality as outlined by professional interpreting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and related service providers to ensure students receive necessary accommodations.
  • Remain responsive to the unique communication needs of each student and adapt interpreting methods as needed.
  • Contribute to IEP meetings or program planning when requested, acting as a resource for staff and families regarding Deaf culture and communication strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification or license as a Sign Language Interpreter recognized by state or nationally accredited organizations.
  • Demonstrated school-based or educational interpreting experience highly preferred.
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with signed English or other communication modes, as required by students' needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adhere to school protocols.
