Key Qualifications:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Certification from a nationally recognized interpreting organization (such as RID or EIPA, preferred)
  • Experience working in school or youth-centered environments
  • Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethics in educational interpreting
  • Ability to interpret for a variety of classroom situations, extracurricular activities, meetings, and more
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and needs within a school setting

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, faculty, and families
  • Support full participation of students in academic and social activities
  • Assist with classroom instruction by accurately conveying content and intent
  • Foster an inclusive environment by facilitating accessible communication
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
  • Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to address individual student needs
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other multidisciplinary discussions as assigned
