Key Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Certification from a nationally recognized interpreting organization (such as RID or EIPA, preferred)
- Experience working in school or youth-centered environments
- Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethics in educational interpreting
- Ability to interpret for a variety of classroom situations, extracurricular activities, meetings, and more
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and needs within a school setting
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students, faculty, and families
- Support full participation of students in academic and social activities
- Assist with classroom instruction by accurately conveying content and intent
- Foster an inclusive environment by facilitating accessible communication
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to address individual student needs
- Participate in IEP meetings and other multidisciplinary discussions as assigned
