Sign Language Interpreter in Marion, NC

An exciting contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a high school student 1:1 in a school setting. This position is conveniently situated within commuting distance of Hickory, East Asheville, and Lincolnton, offering a chance to make a meaningful difference in a supportive educational environment.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for a high school student, ensuring clear and accurate communication within the classroom and throughout the school day.
• Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers.
• Support the student’s participation in academic activities and extracurricular programs.
• Maintain strict confidentiality with all student and school matters.
• Adapt interpretation to various subjects and settings, assisting with both instructional and social interactions as needed.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting strongly preferred.
• Possess a minimum 3.5 EIPA score or RID certification (or be actively working towards certification).
• Proficient in ASL with a thorough understanding of educational interpreting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, reliable work ethic.
• Ability to follow IEP accommodations and collaborate with educational staff.
