Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret in educational settings
  • Previous experience working with children or in a school environment highly preferred
  • Understanding of middle school dynamics and the unique needs of this age group
  • Certification or licensure (according to state standards) as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school-related activities for a middle school student
  • Foster inclusivity by supporting communication with teachers, staff, and classmates
  • Prepare for assignments by familiarizing yourself with lesson content and school happenings
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the needs of the student and setting
  • Maintain accurate records and follow all school policies and best practices
