Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Mchenry, Illinois

As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in fostering inclusive education by providing communication support to a high school student. Your work will ensure equitable access to classroom instruction, conversations, and activities, promoting both academic achievement and social engagement.

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

• EIPA score of 3.5 with ISBE certification, or EIPA 3.0+ with IBSE approval
• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) in educational environments
• Familiarity with interpreting in mainstream classrooms
• Ability to collaborate with teaching staff and contribute to a positive learning atmosphere
• Commitment to ethics and confidentiality in accordance with professional interpreting standards

Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school-related activities for a high school student
• Work Monday through Friday, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
• Adapt to a range of educational topics and support communication between students, peers, and staff members
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
• Assist in creating an inclusive and accessible classroom environment
