This opportunity is ideal for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter with a passion for supporting students in educational settings. Working within schools located in Mesquite, NM, this role requires travel to various school sites, providing essential communication support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to enhance their learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities accurately and professionally.
  • Collaborate with educators, speech therapists, and other school personnel to support student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Monitor and adapt to the specific communication needs of each student to ensure an inclusive learning environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with certification preferred.
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially K–12 schools.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational challenges faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel between multiple school locations throughout Mesquite, NM.
