Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Midlothian, Illinois

Key Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter within educational settings.
• Understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the unique communication needs of students with Autism.
• Possess relevant interpreter certification or licensure as required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and support staff.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; compassionate and patient demeanor.

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services to facilitate communication between the early childhood student with Autism and peers, teachers, and other staff members.
• Support the student during classroom instruction, group activities, and individual sessions as needed.
• Adapt signing style and techniques to suit the student’s communication preferences and learning needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times in accordance with school policies.
• Collaborate with the educational team to help develop and implement communication strategies.
• Offer interpretive support during meetings, events, and other relevant occasions throughout the school year.
