Qualifications & Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
- Current certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (state requirements apply)
- Understanding of IEPs and educational terminology is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and dedication to supporting student needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt signing style to match age and developmental level of each student
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure all communication needs are met
- Clarify or relay information in a way that preserves meaning, intent, and confidentiality
- Assist students during school-related events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities as needed
- Maintain detailed records of sessions and fulfill reporting requirements
